CAUSES AND AYURVEDIC TREATMENT FOR FACIAL PARALYSIS

Facial paralysis is almost always caused by:

Damage or swelling of the facial nerve, which carries signals from the brain to the muscles of the face    * Damage to the area of the brain that sends signals to the muscles of the face
In people who are otherwise healthy, facial paralysis is often due to Bell's palsy, a condition in which the facial nerve becomes inflamed.

Stroke may cause facial paralysis. With a stroke, other muscles on one side of the body may also be involved.
Facial paralysis that is due to a brain tumor usually develops slowly and causes headaches, seizures, or hearing loss.
In newborns, facial paralysis may be caused by trauma during birth.

Other causes include:

    * Tumor that presses on the facial nerve    * Infection    * Lyme disease    * Sarcoidosis

In ayurveda this condition is called (arditha) means loss of function of facial muscles, ayurveda consider this as a vata disorder because vata is the one dosha control the motor and sensory activities of the body, mainly the brain function.
There are many possibilities for vata disorders it might be due to some external factors or due to some infection, in ayurveda these factors are termed as (dushyas) which will vitiate the dosha. The main pathology behind facial palsy is the inflamation of the concernd nerve, in ayurveda without the involvement of pitta there wont be any inflamation, as the nerve get blocked the blocking factor will be mainly kapha, depending upon the severity of blockage the nerve damage will be there, and this determines whether the disease is vata, pitta or kapha predominant, the treatment will vary according to the doshic predominance.
The net result will be getting the doshic balance and the proper vata functon Treatment modalities include both internal and external therapies
