An Ayurvedic  Approach To The Management Of Hepatitis B

Hepatitis B is a potentially life-threatening liver infection caused by the hepatitis B virus.

It is a major global health problem and the most serious type of     viral hepatitis.

The hepatitis B virus is 50 to 100 times more infectious than HIV

Two billion people worldwide have been infected with the virus and about 600,000 people die every year due to the consequences of hepatitis B. Total HBV occurrence in india is around 3-4%

Most people do not experience any symptoms during the acute infection phase.

Clinical features
 Some  have acute illness with symptoms including
Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice),
Dark urine,
Extreme fatigue,
Nausea, vomiting
Abdominal pain lasting for several weeks.

Complications:

Chronic liver infection
Cirrhosis of the liver
 Liver cancer.
90% of infants infected during the first year of life develop chronic infections

30–50% of children infected between one to four years of age develop chronic infections.

25% of adults who become chronically infected during childhood die from hepatitis B-related liver cancer or cirrhosis

90% of healthy adults who are infected with the hepatitis B virus will recover and be completely rid of the virus within six months.

Molluscum Contagiosum
It is a tumour produced by virus.
Dome shaped, waxy, pink papules or nodules 2 to 5 mm in size.
Central umbilication.
Usually asymptomatic and self limiting.
Treatment.
Surgical removal of the lesion.
Cryo therapy with liquid nitrogen. 
Electro desiccation.

It can occur in myxoedema, early syphilis and pregnancy.

Not all conditions are successfully curable.

KUSTHA THE SKINMANIFESTATION IN AYURVEDIC MANGEMENT
“Sarvam kushņāti tat vapuh”
The disease is called kuşţha because it disfigures the body, if not treated in time.
There are seven mahā kuşţhas and eleven kşudra kuşţhas.
The terms mahā (severe) and kşudra (less severe) indicate the intensity of the disease

 Causative factors
Āhāra (Food factors)
Continued use of incompatible foods and drinks.
Excessive use of new cereals, yogurt, fishes, salty and sour foods.
Excessive use of sesamum, milk, jaggery, pulses.
Indigestion, eating before the previous meal has been digested.

Vihāra (Activities)
Suppression of natural urges especially vomiting.
Avoidance of periodical elimination procedures (Paňcakarma).
Drinking cold water immediately after exposing to sun, physical exertion.
Too much of physical exertion

Others
Not respecting elders.
Committing sinful acts (Dasa vidha pāpa)
Main skin manifestation are Tuberculoid leprosy,Nummular eczema ,Allergic VasculitisTinea variant, chronic stage with  secondary infection.,Melanoma (Skin cancer)

Treatment
निदानपरिर्वजनं avoid caustive factor
अपकर्षणं-complete wash out of dosha
प्रकृति विघातनं-inernal medicine to prevent re occurance
these three are main and three fold of treatment

Kustha disease occurs due dosha bahulyata,in this case shodana is essentional

    पक्षात् पक्षात् –छर्दनं  every 15 days vomiting therapy
    मासान्मासात् – स्रसनं every month purgation
    वत्सरे हि व्दौ – रक्तस्राव्यं once in two time in year
    नस्यं        - त्रिरात्रात्रिरात्रं three days gap
first start with sneha panam prior to above procedure snehana (medicine with oil or ghee or vasa or majja to loose dosha from main seat)

Snehana (Uttama matra)
Snehana given in purvarrupa stage
    vata – meshasrgadi oil,ghee
    pitta- asvakarnaadi ghee
