botanical description: evergreen tree having a height of 50 to 70 mtrs. circumference of the stem measures approximately 10 mtrs.tender branches are thin greyish,hairy and are bent down wards.leaves 2.5 to 5cm in length, 4 cm in breadth crooked at the tip.they are smooth and dark dorsally while ventral side is dusky with central vein . fruit elongated, 15 cm in length voilet or blue in colour.seeds are feathery with 1.5 to 3cm of length.

respiratory system : bitter, pungent,and tikshna.effective in cough, asthma, hoarseness of voice and tuberculosis.
uriary system : it has diuretic property. it alleviates oedama caused by kapha.
TEMPERATURE: febrifuge(vata kapha).it regularizes the temperature, acts an expectorant , alleviates chest pain
SATMIKARAN: it has madhur vipak, though it is tikshna and ushna. hence it is a tonic and used in tuberculosis and general debelity.
