Hair
fall is something that most of us battle with. While for some,
severe hair fall can lead to the formation of bald patches, for others it may leave them with thinning hair. However, other than the allopathic methods of preventing hair loss, there is a natural way that can help you out – Ayurveda.
In this post Dr Bhanushali, Ayurvedacharya tells you about the different Ayurvedic treatments available to arrest hair fall.
Losing about a 100 strands of hair on a daily basis is normal and there is no need to worry about it. When it comes to treating hair fall however, what most doctors aim to do is not to arrest the falling of hair but to further the growth of new hair. While there are multiple causes for hair fall, the exact cause for the condition should be identified first in order for the treatment to be successful. Some of the most common causes for hair fall are dandruff, anemia, calcium deficiency, stress, hormonal imbalance, pollution and in some cases pregnancy.
In Ayurveda, the kind of treatment you are likely to receive depends on the cause of the illness. Here is a list of treatments based on the cause of hair fall.
Dandruff: In the case of dandruff, one can use Karanj oil on the scalp. This oil is extracted from a nut and has very potent antiseptic properties. Used largely only externally, Karanja oil is perfect when it comes to getting rid of dandruff causing fungus. Apart from that one can also have some oral medications like Gandhak Rasyan (a medicine used to treat skin disorders and reduce itching) and Aarogyavardhini (helps in removal of toxins from the body and to treat skin disorders).
Iron deficiency Anaemia: for hair fall due to anaemia, it is best for the person to have fruits and vegetables like pomegranate, black raisins, dates, carrots, and beet root, as all of them are good sources of natural Iron. Another good remedy is to have Tapyadi loha for a period of three months.
Calcium deficiency: A great way to beat calcium deficiency is to include milk into your daily diet plan. If you do not like milk you can choose to have buttermilk and paneer instead. You can also have Lakshadi guggulu for three months.
Stress: The best way to beat stress is through meditation and relaxation. A great panchakarma remedy is to undergo Shirodhara treatment with Bramhi oil. You can also have 10ml Saraswatarishtha with an equal quantity of water twice in a day after food.
Hormonal imbalance: Conditions like PCOS can result in hormonal imbalances. Hypothyroidism or the insufficiency of the thyroid hormone can also lead to hair fall. Correcting this imbalance can reduce hair fall. In such cases having a thorough evaluation by an Ayurvedacharya is best way to help resolve this problem.
Post delivery: After having a baby, your body undergoes a number of changes. Therefore it is essential that you maintain a properly balanced diet and rest sufficiently. As a remedy you can have Dashmoolarishtha to reduce the hair fall and other symptoms like fatigue after child birth.
